    Record/Vinyl + Digital Album

In the late 1960s, CBC augmented its commitment to Canadian artists by producing original albums by home-grown talent and distributing them on vinyl solely to its broadcast affiliates, both in Canada and across North America, in runs of just 250 copies. These discs have become holy-grail items for collectors and are now being remastered from the original tapes where available, or carefully restored from mint vinyl originals with the original artwork. They are pressed on 180-gram heavyweight black vinyl on brand new, state-of-the-art record pressing machines.

Original copies of this record have traded hands for upwards of $1500.00!

about

A true legend of the psych-folk rock genre, the very first album by Canadian band Perth County Conspiracy was conceived, recorded and designed to look and sound like the product of a commercial record label. But with only 250 copies produced the record quickly reached mythic status as the band went on to begin a commercial career with Columbia Records. Defining the zeitgeist as the 60s became the 70s, the band sound has touches of Nick Drake, Donovan and Terry Reid as well as more acid folk influences. Pure commune folk music and one of Canada’s most intriguing psychedelic artifacts. Heavy (vibes) and extremely rare. All tracks recorded at Studio G CBC Toronto on August 14 and 15, 1970.

Track Name: Welcome Surprise
Welcome Surprise
Richard Keelan

I look for the first light in the sky, under a star
Continue to do what’s right despite, all illusion

You better decode, before you decide
You’re going to explode your ticket to ride
Whether or not you have got something to hide

Metaphysical hustlers come in dozens, for a dime
Laying down a straight line to invest
Your precious free time in a banker’s delusion

You’re scrutinized, the values you prize
And the plowshare sword cuts a web of lies
And you find that what you are is a welcome surprise

I said, metaphysical hustlers come in dozens, for a dime
Laying down a straight line to invest
Your precious free time in a banker’s delusion

You’re scrutinized, the values you prize
And the plowshare sword cuts a web of lies
And you find that what you are is a welcome surprise
And you find that what you are is a welcome surprise
Track Name: Take Your Time
Take Your Time
Richard Keelan, Cedric Smith

All together now, one by one
We’ll follow the road of the morning sun
If you take your time,
Take your time, take your time,
Take your time, take your time

To be able to tie it together
In order to see what to do
But know who you are and just aware that you’re ready to be tried and true
Don’t you take your time, take your time,
Don’t be late, you better take your time, run
Take your time, Take your time,
Take your time, and run to the valley of children of the sun
Take your time, Take your time, ….

We got to be on the same time
We got to be on the main line
Got to be on the daylight savings time,
Daylight saving time, Got to be on the daylight savings time,
Wont you take your time, take your time,
Take your time, Take your time,
Take your time, and run to the valley of the children of the sun
Take your time, Take your time, ….

Just take your take
Oh Buddy, don’t take mine
I don’t have all the time in the world
Track Name: If You Can Want
If You Can Want
Smokey Robinson

You may not love me now, but I’m staying around
‘Cause you want my company
And just like push can come to shove, like can turn to love
And it’s my philosophy that

If you can want, you can need
If you can need, you can care
If you can care, you can love
So whenever you want me, I’ll be there
Whenever you want me, I’ll be there

Now this may take some time, and if time was money
I’d would be a millionaire
So whenever you want me call, anytime at all
It’s for sure I’ll be right there

‘Cause If you can want, you can need
If you can need, you can care
If you can care, you can love
So whenever you want me, I’ll be there
Whenever you want me, I’ll be there

I’ll be standing by, but not far away
Let your heart give me a sign
‘Cause I’m prepared to wait, until that future date
When you want me all the time.

If you can want, you can need
If you can need, you can care
If you can care, you can love
So whenever you want me, I’ll be there
I said whenever you want me, I’ll be there
Whenever you want me, I’ll be there

You may not love me now, but I’m staying around
‘Cause you want my company
And just like push can come to shove, like can turn to love
And it’s my philosophy

If you can want, you can need
If you can need, you can care
If you can care, you can love
So whenever you want me, I’ll be there
I said whenever you want me, I’ll be there

If you can need, I’ll be there
If you can want, I’ll be there
If you can care, yes I’ll be there
Whenever you want me, I’ll be there
Whenever you want me, I’ll be there
Track Name: Woman For All Seasons
Woman For All Seasons
Cedric Smith

Through the years her eyes have deepened
Not with sorrow my friend, not with sorrow

Today her eyes like crystals sparkle
And will tomorrow my friend, will tomorrow

Dawn caresses her cheeks so lightly
The sun believes her my friend, the sun believes her

Forgetting why I reach to touch her
I shan’t deceive her my friend, shan’t deceive her

What she needs in shades of sadness
Is a gay pipe full of madness
So she can drift where the candle light does glow
So she can drift where quiet breezes blow
Cooling her mind

Now the games have ceased at last
And the emptiness has passed
And the cup that she drinks from
Holds only water and peace of mind

Through the years her eyes have deepened
Not with sorrow my friend, not with sorrow

Today her eyes like crystals sparkle
And will tomorrow my friend, will tomorrow
Let her be
Track Name: Hurdy-Gurdy Man
Hurdy-Gurdy Man
Donovan

Thrown like a star in my vast sleep
I opened my eyes to take a peek
To find that I was by the sea
Gazing with tranquillity

Then come the Hurdy-Gurdy Man
Come singing songs of love
Then come the Hurdy-Gurdy Man
Come singing songs
Then come the Hurdy-Gurdy Man
Come singing songs of love
Then come the Hurdy-Gurdy Man
Come singing songs
You know that then come the Hurdy-Gurdy Man
Come singing songs of love
Then come the Hurdy-Gurdy Man
Come singing songs
You know that then come the Hurdy-Gurdy Man
Come singing songs of love
Then come the Hurdy-Gurdy Man
Come singing songs

History of ages past
Unenlightened shadows cast
Down through all eternity
The crying of humanity

Then come the Hurdy-Gurdy Man
Come singing songs of love
Then come the Hurdy-Gurdy Man
Come singing songs
You know that then come the Hurdy-Gurdy Man
Come singing songs of love
Then come the Hurdy-Gurdy Man
Come singing songs
Then come the Hurdy-Gurdy Man
Come singing songs of love
Then come the Hurdy-Gurdy Man

Track Name: Mr. Truthful Licks
Mr Truthful Licks
Richard Keelan

Listen Mr Truthful Licks, put aside your bag of tricks, help us understand
‘Cause I tell Mr Truthful Licks, I wouldn’t want to miss your honest wish, to render helping plans

Listen Mr Truthful Licks, put aside your bag of tricks, help us understand
‘Cause I tell Mr Truthful Licks I wouldn’t want to miss your honest wish to render helping plans

Wash away the lies and fears that tie us to the years
Let us think your thoughts and let your spirit reappear

I never really had but a glimpse of you, Mr Truthful Licks
Even In disguise you can’t change your eyes, Mr Truthful Licks, you know
Be what you want to be, so will we

So won’t you listen Mr Truthful Licks, put aside your bag of tricks, help us understand

Wash away the lies and fears that tie us to the years
Let us think your thoughts and let your spirit reappear

I never really had but a glimpse of you, Mr Truthful Licks
And even in disguise you can’t change your eyes, Mr Truthful Licks, oh you know
I’ll be what you ought to be, so will we

So wont’ you listen Mr Truthful Licks, he put aside your bag of tricks, and helps you understand

I said listen now, oh Mr Truthful Licks
Oh listen Mr Truthful Licks, helps you understand
Oh won’t you listen now, oh Mr Truthful Licks
Listen Mr Truthful Licks, helps you understand
I said listen now, oh Mr Truthful Licks
Oh listen Mr Truthful Licks, helps you understand
Track Name: So Many Things
So Many Things
Cedric Smith

If I went drifting with the under tow
Would I find out things that I don’t already know
So many things worth believing
Even more totally deceiving

Seagulls swooping for the breadcrumbs that I throw
Slyly avoiding the dangerous cliffs below
So many things worth believing
Even more totally deceiving

Castles will vanish into thinnest air
Castles will fall but the sand will still be there, so try again
So many things worth believing
Even more totally deceiving

I feel a vision forming let me ride it through
I can’t believe the answers so I question, wouldn’t you
So many things worth believing
Even more totally deceiving
Track Name: Hindsight
Hindsight
Richard Keelan

Don’t tell me you couldn’t care less if you always get the same but you never get the rest

Don’t tell me you wouldn’t share best if you didn’t play a game that you really detest

Hindsights better than being blind
You better be ware lest you get a careless mind

I don’t believe you when you say you don’t believe me when I only try to tell you what you know
Just look behind you and let what has been remind you that you never get to keep what you sew

Don’t tell me you wouldn’t want to be in the middle of a meadow in the shadow of a tree
Don’t tell me you wouldn’t want to see by the light of a day where the sun seems free

Hindsights better than being blind
You better be ware lest you get a careless mind

I don’t believe you when you say you don’t believe me when I only try to tell you what you know
So just look behind you and let what has been remind you that you never get to keep what you sew

Don’t tell me you couldn’t care less if you always get the same but you never get the rest
Don’t tell me you would’ share best if you didn’t play a game that you really detest

Hindsights better than being blind
You better be ware lest you get a careless mind

Track Name: Lace And Cobwebs
Lace and Cobwebs
Cedric Smith

Behold the precious sunlight flower, modelled in her troubled hour
Focusing eyes are blue she sees not some but all of you

What I know I’m not the only one to know, the treasures of the sun I know, I’m not the only one to know, the pleasures of the sun

In a lace and cobwebs sky, her hair and summer locks do fly
Perhaps you need at first to cry, to follow the sun browns dragon fly

But I know I’m not the only one to know, the glories of the sun I know, I’m not the only one to know, the stories of the sun

Behold the precious sunlight flower, modelled in her troubled hour
A song of love spun from the core, she asked the raven nothing more

But I know I’m not the only one to know, the treasures of the sun I know, I’m not the only one to know, the pleasures of the sun I know, I’m not the only one to know, the glories of the sun I know, I’m not the only one to know, the stories of the sun
Track Name: I Shall Be Released
I Shall Be Released
Bob Dylan

They say ev’rything can be replaced
They ev’ry distance is not near
And so I remember ev’ry face
Of ev’ry man who put me here
I see my light come shining
From the west down to the east
Any day now, any day now
I shall be released

They say ev’ry man needs protection
They tell me ev’ry man must fall
Still I swear I see my reflection
Somewhere so high above this wall
Well I see my light come shining
From the west down to the east
Any day now, any day now
I shall be released

I see my light come shining
From the west down to the east
Any day now, any day now
I shall be released

They say ev’ry man needs protection
They tell me ev’ry man must fall
Still I swear I see my reflection
Somewhere so high above this wall
I see my light come shining
From the west down to the east
Any day now, any day now
I shall be released

Well yonder stands a man in his lonely crowd
A man who swears he’s not to blame
And all day long I hear him shout so loud
He’s crying out that he was framed
Well I see my light come shining
From the west down to the east
Any day now, any day now
I shall be released

Any day now, any day now
I shall be released
